Interior of the Pantheon, Rome, 1747
Giovanni Paolo Panini (Italian, 1691-1765)
oil on canvasThe Cleveland Museum of Art posted this painting on their facebook page today and it is one of my favorites to visit. It doesn’t come through as well here as in person, but the light and space has such an intensely distinct and nice and rich atmospheric thing going on that gives the piece a very three dimensional feel. I haven’t been to the CMA for a while (since beautiful balloon time) but really want to get back over there soon (because Art and because there is easy ENG 322 extra credit to be had). Also they’ve got some new fancy hi-tech stuff going on.
Love this painting in my hometown museum, but I also got to visit the Pantheon in Rome, and it was gorgeous. I still remember feeling spring rain coming through the oculus in the roof.
Caroline Goeser of the Cleveland Museum of Art talks about the new Gallery One, which contains some of the nation’s most advanced digital hardware and software for use in art museums.

it follows its own daimonion
